Ordering a celebration cake: what to decide before you order

A birthday, a leaving do, a new baby, a Tuesday that needs cheering up. We make whole cakes to order, you pay online, and you collect the cake from the café. Our celebration cakes start at £28.

Here are the things to decide before you order, so the cake you collect is the cake you pictured.

1. The flavour

We have three to choose from in the shop:

  • Victoria sponge, with raspberry jam and buttercream. The one everybody likes.
  • Chocolate fudge, for the chocolate lover in your life.
  • Carrot and walnut, with cream cheese frosting. Our counter favourite.

If someone has a food allergy, check the allergens listed on each cake before you order. All of them contain gluten, eggs and milk, and the carrot cake contains walnuts.

2. The size

Each cake comes in two sizes. As a rough guide, a 6 inch cake gives 8 to 10 good slices and an 8 inch cake gives 12 to 16. If the cake is going on a buffet table with lots of other food, people take smaller slices and it goes further. If it is the main event, size up.

3. The message on top

When you check out, there is a box for a note. Put the message you would like written on the cake there, spelled exactly as you want it. Keep it short: "Happy 40th Sam" fits nicely, a whole verse does not.

4. When you will collect it

Put the date you would like to collect the cake in the same note. The more notice you can give us, the better, especially around busy weekends and bank holidays. We will be in touch to confirm the cake is ready.

5. Collecting it

Cakes are collected from the café at 7 Cheap Street, any day between 8am and 4pm. When you check out, choose Collect from the café. We cannot post cakes: they do not enjoy the journey.

A few tips for getting it home in one piece:

  • carry the box flat, with both hands under it
  • in the car, put it on the floor or in the boot rather than on a seat
  • keep it somewhere cool until the party, out of the sun

Need something else?

If you would like a flavour or size that is not in the shop, send us a message and ask. And if you would rather celebrate here, our afternoon tea for up to 8 people is a lovely way to do it.
